Band-Aids

Is aromatherapy a band-aid? I would say it could be, yes. What is the definition of a Band-Aid?

The term “band-aid” has also entered usage as both a noun and verb describing a temporary fix. (e.g. “Band-aid solutions were used to fix the leak.”)

http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/band-aid:  offering, making use of, or serving as a temporary or expedient remedy or solution; a strip of fabric used especially to cover, dress, and bind up wound.

The popular opinion is that anything you do to cover up a problem is a band-aid, but in reality it is something that aid in the process of healing. So YES, aromatherapy in and of itself is a band-aid 🙂 but the bigger picture of healing needs to be explored. Aromatherapy is only a piece of the pie.

I was in a heated discussion with someone because they insisted that their remedy was better then all the others, or so that is how it came across to me. I told them that I did not believe in Magic Bullets and that their remedy is not greater then or less then equal to my own. We need all of them, just one is not going to cut it. That is when she put me down by calling my way a band-aid. Many people want to pop pills to make up for the damage they are doing to their bodies and just keep going as if it never happened. Even I am guilty of this. I love Chocolate, sweets such as pastries and I also do enjoy soda pop. I try to keep these things at a minimum and I do a lot of healthy things to make up for it, but it still is NO excuse.

I have a friend who has a savior allergy to shellfish and she will pop pills so she can eat what her body can not handle. I understand her passion for great food, but we have got to stop damaging ourselves. My girlfriend and I stead in three different locations for the Christmas holidays 2013 visiting friends and family. All three were not the best environments and together they were perhaps a recipe for disaster. Our house though being fairly clean is over 100 years old, drafty and we have very little heat while we are rehabbing it. The second house too was drafty, but the air-ducts may have never been cleaned, there had been dogs and cats messing all over the house for years and not all of it had been cleaned up. There were other factors, but all in all it was not a very clean or healthy environment. The third house was not drafty; but also had cats running around and not being kept up after, the air-ducts there too were probably dirty, not to mention cockroaches and other germs. One if not all the house are probably haunted (if you believe in that sort of thing, I believe they’re everywhere, not just certain places). Positive or negative feelings, energy and other things like thought come into play as well. Whether it be friend, foe, spiritual and/or metaphysical.

Now, in all this; she came down with pneumonia and I did not. Why is this??? The main reason that is obvious is that I have been practicing healthy alternatives for years, I work out and try to stay fit, healthy and active. She is a smoker and a drinker, she has not been taking very good care of her health until I came along 6 months ago and she has been depressed because men in her past has been bringing her down. Then we have Spiritual health. Though we are both very spiritually strong, I depend on my faith to keep me strong and healthy more then most; I believe she does too but I don’t know how strong she believes because I am not walking in her shoes. I know this sounds bad, me talking about my girlfriend and such, but my intent is good.

Moral of the story is, you cannot do one or two things and think your going to be OK. It is a lifestyle that you have to live long term. I simply started this lifestyle before she did and though she does some things already, I am helping her to move forward. I too used to do things like smoke, drink do drugs and so forth, it took me time to get where I am and I still am not where I wish to be. She is not a bad person, in fact she wants to start a network to help people who are less fortunate to get their carpets and air-ducts clean because she is a strong advocate of clean air just like me; only she has a different way of doing it and it works. I didn’t know till I met her that your carpet is the biggest air filter in the house; and like any air filter, you have to either change them and/or clean them regularly. I don’t think I have ever herd of air-duct cleaning till I met her, but it is amazing how much crap is in there that we never see. I know I don’t want to breath those things…

Thieves Oil:

“”The recipe for this blend is believed to have originated from thieves during the 15th century. According to popular theory, the concoction was created by a group of four thieves® and grave robbers to protect themselves from contracting the plague while robbing the bodies of the gravely ill and deceased. When apprehended, the thieves admitted to using the formula and disclosed the recipe in order to receive a less severe punishment for their crimes.

Whether or not this story is true, the essential oils in this blend are antiseptic, antiviral, antibacterial, and anti-infectious. They will stimulate the immune system, circulation and respiratory system, and help protect against the flu, colds, bronchitis, pneumonia, sore throats, cuts, and more. Modern testing has shown the effectiveness of this blend and studies have found it to have a high kill rate against airborne bacteria.

This is a classic recipe, but you can customize it by adjusting the quantities or adding other antibacterial essential oils such as Tea Tree, Oregano, Thyme, Sage, Ravensara, Lavender, Juniper Berry, Hyssop, Bay Laurel, or Scotch Pine.

Ingredients:

40 drops organic Clove Bud essential oil
35 drops organic Lemon essential oil

If essential oils can prevent people from getting the plague, what else can it do??? But that’s not it; you have to eat right, drink right, think right, pray right, and do other things like getting some sort of exercise and putting forth happy and healthy energy out into to world. You can make yourself sick just by your bad thoughts and bad behavior. You can pray to whom ever you like, but spiritual healing is equally as important as all the others. Even if you subscribe to modern medicines, if you do not do the other remembered necessities that the body needs, you are just masking the problem and you are only going to go down hill rather then get better.

I believe in four levels of healing; Mental, emotional, Spiritual and the Physical. You need all four and there are many levels of each of them that you can explore to fit your own personal needs.

So go, be healthy and live well 🙂
